The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked political parties to submit details of expenses incurred on the July 25 polls.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the electoral body urged political parties that contested the polls to declare details of all donors who contributed funds equal to or in excess of Rs100,000 to their campaigns.
“It is informed to all Political Parties that have contested General Elections 2018 that it is the obligation (sic) under Section 211 of the Election Act, 2017 read with Rule 161 of the Election Rule, 2017 to furnish the list of contributors who have donated or contributed an amount equal to or more than one hundred thousand rupees for their election campaign,” the notification read.
The ECP gave political parties till October 6 to submit funding details.
Separately, the Commission issued notices to six political parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for having failure to award at least five per cent tickets for general seats in the upcoming by-polls to female candidates.
Other parties that were issued these notices were Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Tehreek-i-Insaf Nazaryati, Rah-i-Haq Party and Tehreek-i-Labaik Islam.
The notice read, “You are hereby directed to show cause as to why action under the law be not taken against you (sic).”
According to Section 206 of the Election Act 2017, each political party is required to nominate at least five per cent women as candidates in polls.
These parties have 15 days to respond to ECP’s show-cause notice.
